Billingham Town Football Club
Town started pre season with a defeat but the 4.1 scoreline slightly flattered the home side. Marske had already opened their campaign on Monday night with a resounding 8.1 victory against Teesside League outfit Redcar Newmarket. The home side went behind after just 5 minutes on the clock when Daniel Lambert coolly finished past the keepers near post. Town looked comfortable but were caught out with two sucker punches. Andy Ramsbottom equalised with an intelligent lob and Danny Earl put the Seasiders ahead with a neat finish despite Daniel Lambert having a superb shot saved moments before at the other end. New signing Marcus Allen showed immense promise on the left wing and his drilled effort just went wide. As the first half came to a close with Town matching Marske United man per man, the away side went further behind on 42 minutes when Ramsbottom doubled his tally with a close range finish.

As expected, Barry Oliver and Graham Popple made wholesale changes to give the players vital playing time with Saturdays blockbuster against Hartlepool United in mind. The second half was limited in terms of chances with Marske happy to keep possession but Town acquitted themselves well against the former Northern League Champions. Not to be outdone by his brother, Aaron Ramsbottom scored with a looping header and the new signings from Northallerton Town look to be astute acquisitions to an already strong squad. Town were without strikers Chris Dickinson and Craig Hutchinson but new signing Daniel Lambert from Newton Aycliffe caught the eye and Mark Dixon looked non the worse after his end of season ankle injury.
